Shopping Plaza Competition + Arkham Projects
Invited to collaborate by the acclaimed architecture firm Arkham Projects, the brief was to adapt what is currently a shopping centre and turn it into a space with retail, workplace and dining qualities as well as residential, cultural and high-quality public spaces. The project starts from an idea we called "introspective architecture", since the surroundings are extremely noisy. With no views to work with, a central park was proposed, around which the views of every use in the complex would orbit. Leaving retail and dining on the first two floors, the circuit that is usually enclosed in a shopping centre becomes a pleasant walk through a park full of vegetation. Office space continues on the next two levels, leaving the residential area private at the top of the project.
