How MAAR Is Redefining Contemporary Mexican Architecture

Architecture in Mexico is going through a pivotal moment: cities that change fast, increasingly extreme climates and users who expect spaces that are more human and more efficient. At MAAR we prefer to respond with a clear mix of judgement and method: listen to the site, design with data and build with craft. That means starting from the essentials — orientation, shade, ventilation and water management — and then refining with tools that let us anticipate how each space will behave before the first wall goes up.

We do not chase styles; we look for answers. If the climate calls for thermal mass, we work with heavy materials and well-resolved envelopes. If a place needs lightness, we opt for modular systems that reduce waste and time. What matters is that every design decision has a reason: controlled light to avoid glare, courtyards that genuinely ventilate, native planting that cools without demanding extra water, and circulation designed so that people enjoy the journey rather than just reaching their destination.

Technology comes in when it delivers tangible value. We model in BIM to coordinate architecture, structure and services and to reduce improvisation on site. We use solar and wind simulations to size shading, openings and heights precisely. Where it makes sense, we integrate photovoltaic generation, water recovery and straightforward consumption monitoring. Not as a fashion, but because the balance between investment, operation and maintenance works out favourably over time.

We also believe in identity. A project can be contemporary without losing its roots: honest textures, well-directed local craft and details that age with dignity. That combination — climatic judgement, refined technique and authentic identity — is what, in our experience, generates real comfort, operational savings and lasting value. In short: architecture that feels good today and will still work tomorrow.
